"The BBC will almost certainly be led by a woman for the first time in its 79-year history from January 1, when Chitra Bharucha becomes acting chair of the BBC Trust.
Ms Bharucha will be stepping into the breach because it is highly unlikely that the government will have recruited a replacement for BBC Trust chairman Michael Grade by the beginning of next year, following his shock defection to ITV."
Sky announce that they are happy with the appointment
"Executives at BSkyB - which became ITV's largest shareholder following an audacious near £1bn swoop for a 17.9% stake - are understood to be happy the uncertainty surrounding the commercial broadcaster's leadership has now ended.
"We are pleased that the board has moved quickly to bring in new leadership and a leader of some stature," said a senior Sky source."
