Polly Toynbee writing in yesterdays Guardian reflects on the Clive Goodman affair.
“This is a good time to strike at the monstrous power of the media”
In particular she comments on how little we seem to have been shocked by the revelations that have come out of the courtroom.
“Has Britain finally lost the capacity to be shocked by the press itself”
Let’s just consider what has been revealed-phone bugging of cabinet ministers, the royal family and numerous celebs.
Polly writes that Goodman has taken the rap himself but really shouldn’t his bosses be in court?
Perhaps it is time to control the power of the media instead of courting it as Blair and Cameron both expend energy chasing Murdock around the world.
Now is the time to strike with Murdoch attempting to take over both the Internet and control the management of ITV. Instead the Government continues to pressurise the BBC.
“The BBC risks losing £1.6b if it only gets an inflationary or below rise in the license fee, despite bearing the whole cost of turning the country digital. “
