Fifty five journalists were killed around the world this year according to figures from a study by a US committee to protect journalists.Not suprisingly 32 were in Iraq mostly nationals who were victims of kidnap and torture.
Elsewhere seven were killed in Mexico of whom three murdered.
The most high profile case though was the killing of the Russian invesigative journalist,Anna Politkovskaya who was gunned down in October.
