Political Blogging

After Polly Toynbee's comments a couple of weeks ago about bloggers, her name was mentioned in a lively debate this mornin on Andrew Marr's programme.Featuring Iain Dale in one corner and Yasmin Alibhai Brownfrom the Independent in the other, the discussion turned into a lively affair.

Marr introduced blogs as being where the next election might be fought pointing out that we are still 3-4 years behind the US.

Comments were considerably elist and defended the of jourmnalism in giving the populus infromation describing blogs as like a chat down the pub.Her views were that as blogs proliferated they would bring about their own downfall because there would be too many to read.

Dale stood his ground, his site gets around 25k hits a week and as he pointed out he never courted this publicity simply using it as a diary for his thoughts(Not sure about that though Iain).

As the interview cam toan end, perhaps the real raeson for Brown's anger became known when she accused the blogsphere of spreading untruths about her which she found impossible to defend......Until she went to guess who ......Iain Dale's site????
