Andrew Neill on Desert Island Discs

I am just listening to Andrew Neill's appearance on Desert Island Discs, some headlines from it.

Neill claims that he persuaded Murdock to move to Wapping having seen the success of Eddie Shah in Warrington. He described the atmosphere at Wapping as threatening, that he had personal threats against him and was in fear of his life.

He described the print union as a "white East end male monopoly"

Although gruelling there was never a time when he wanted to give up even when he had to wait half an hour every night for his house to be searched.

He believes that his greatest scoop in publsihing was the Sunday Times breaking the story about the Israeli secret nuclear plant especially coming so soon after the Hitler Diaries fiasco.

His extra book would be Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations and his luxury a wind up Radio to listen to Radio 4 and the World Service.

The Wapping dispute seems such a long time ago.
