I am sure that much good content and discussion will come out of the World editors forum in Cape Town currently taking place.
Yesterday the Peruvian writer ,Mario Vargas Llosa ,spoke of one of the challenges of journalism being:
"people looking for entertainment rather than “true information” had caused some degradation of journalism. He said this was “very dangerous” and that a transformation of journalism into entertainment would abdicate what has been its most important function. "(from editors weblog)"
This subject has come up a lot on the blog, you may recall one of our lecturers criticizing man of the students for picking what she termed soft news stories for assignments earlier this year.
Good journalism is based on relaying important issues to the general public, unfortunately what are important issues are becoming blurred in this celebratory culture that we live in.How much exposure has Paris Hilton had in this morning's press?
