The Independent dedicates its front page to a defence of the BBC following the phone in scandal revelations.
The paper reports that
"A series of prominent commentators gave the BBC's management and the newly created BBC Trust credit for tackling a problem thrown up by the increasing pressures to cut costs and compete with commercial television. "
And the paper whilst the critising the conservative media which" has maintained a traditional hostility to the BBC," lists the reasons why we should be proud of the corporation
Amongst its acheivements it lists the Archers, the World service, its website and Sir David Attenborough.
The paper also carries a piece by Greg Dyke in which the former DG says
"
The very papers whose journalistic standards of accuracy
have, over the years, been the most questionable were the very same newspapers
who led the criticism of the BBC for falling below its normally high programming
standards. Any journalist who has ever worked for or tried to sell a story to
one of those papers knows only too well that their standards of truth have never
been the highest. The old analogy about pots and kettles springs to mind.
"
No truer words spoken Greg.Certian parts of the press have exhibited a certain holier than thee vow when reporting this news.At least the Mark Thompson has come clean about the problem and is attemptiong to sort it out
