To remind of the Horror

Yesterday was the 62nd anniversary of the atomic bomb attack on the Japanese city of Hiroshoma.

I didn't see anything in the press in the UK but in America HBO broadcast a documentary entitled "White Light/Black Rain" which showed footage of both Hiroshama and Nagasaki just after the bombings. This footage had been supressed by the US military for many years.(via editor and publisher

This from the film makers
Suppressing film footage shot in Hiroshima and Nagasaki was quite significant, as this country rushed into the nuclear age with its citizens having neither a true understanding of the effects of the bomb on human beings, nor why the atomic attacks drew condemnation around the world.

The link above gives a good insight into the history of the film and is well worth a read

The public awareness of Atomic attacks has reduced in recent years with the demise of the Cold War.It is important though that we are periodically reminded of the devestation and suffering that a nuclear attack would bring.Just in case we ever think to use the weapons.

I hope that the documentary will show in this country soon
