Edward Said described the reporting of Islamic reporing in the West
An intense focus on Muslim and Islam in the Western Press-mostly charactorised by a more highly exaggerated stereotyping and belligerent hostility.
The paper this morning are full of coverage of the British teacher Gillian Gibbons who faces the penalties of Sharia law for encouraging her class of seven year olds in Sudan to call their tedy bear after the prophet.
To use in the West,it is ridiculous that someone who seems to have made a general mistake should be in this position and the barborous nature of Islamic penalties for transgressions is once again highlighted by the press.
The front page of the Mirror describes a situation where
Gillian, from Liverpool, was arrested at the weekend at her school lodgings. An angry mob is said to have gathered outside the police station where the divorced mum-of-two is being held. Sudan adheres to strict Islamic law that forbids an attempt to create an image of the prophet Mohammed. Leading British muslims last night condemned the decision to charge Gillian.
Cruel injustice says its leader
Sudan must stop fanatics inflicting a cruel punishment on a good teacher.
Sheer brutality says the Sun
THE West is routinely condemned for demonising Muslims.
But it’s hard to sympathise with a faith that demands 40 lashes for calling a teddy bear Mohammed.
Every perceived slight seems punishable by violence or even death.
Until Muslim leaders speak out publicly against such barbarity, East and West will never come to understand one another.
Yes it is a mistake and if convicted a traversity at laest in Western terms, but please not an excuse for anti Islamic sentiment

Rupert and the Pied Piper of Haraam
There's a little bear
Like I hope you've never seen before
Who's a lot of fun, oh dear
Children everywhere,
Grow to love him more and more, but he's not the fastest growing religion anymore
He's was the number one, excepting the real Muhammad and Allah, be praised
There's a million stories to be told
Of the bad things that he's done!
And he's gonna share them all with you
So come along
(Chorusx2)
Oh Muhammad, Muhammad the Bear
Everyone despise his name, or else die in shame
Muhammad, Muhammad the Bear
Everyone come and join
In all of his games, unless you’re female
There is Badger Bill
Lily Tiger-Lily, I assume because she is covered too,
And a whole lot more
They are Muhammad's friends
And they're waiting here for you
So unlock the door but don’t you dare remove that veil
There's a magic land not far away
And they call it Sudan
Where you'll meet a little teddy bear in chains
And if you are good and have a very thick skin, you might just live to tell the tale again!
(Chorusx2)
Oh Muhammad, Muhammad the Bear
Everyone despise his name, or else die in shame
Muhammad, Muhammad the Bear
Everyone come and join
In all of his pain
The non-Halal teddy bear's picnic
If you go out to the Sudan today
You’re sure of a big surprise
If you go out in the Sudan today
You’d better go in disguise
For every bear that ever there was
Will fear the Sharia law, because
some children there
named a teddy Mohammed
If you go out in the Sudan today
You’d better not go alone
It’s lovely out in the Sudan today
But safer to stay at home
For every bear that ever there was
Fears a fatwa on there head, because
Today’s the day
The Muslims will punish a teacher
