Tradition has it that Father Christmas travels by sleigh, but it seems even he is not exempt from the diktats of the health and safety police.They have told one Santa that he must be strapped into a full body harness in case he falls out of his sleigh as it is towed by a Land Rover at the gentle speed of five miles an hour

Children singing Christmas carols are usually certain to create a festive mood among even the most resistant to a warm burst of Christmas spirit. But when a school choir launched into seasonal song at the Victoria shopping centre in Llandudno, as a charity venture, they were asked by security guards to pipe down.
When the group refused, the centre management called police. The 29 pupils, from the Ysgol San Sior school choir, aged between six and 11, were given permission to perform at the centre last weekend to raise money for the school.

Every year, killjoys and prodnoses do their best to ruin the festive period, proclaiming Christmas offensive to ethnic minorities and banning fairy lights and paper chains on elf'n'safety grounds.
Stories about councils and government departments sending out cards with innocuous, non-specific greetings instead of 'Merry Christmas' and drawings of Islamic minarets rather than mangers and Christmas trees have become so ubiquitous that few newspapers can be bothered to print them any more.
But never underestimate the ingenuity of the jobsworths when it comes to spoiling the festivities.
This week we've had some jumped-up security guard and a Plastic Plod in Llandudno, North Wales, stopping primary school children singing carols in a shopping precinct. They said it was too loud.
