The platform or the content

For those who read this blog, you will know that one of my bugbears about being a mature student journalist is how little attention fellow students seem to have for the newspapers.

Follow the media this morning carries an article that suggests

Many newspapers have given up on trying to regain their young readers who have drifted away to other platforms, but that’s a big mistake -- publishers should be ensuring that whatever platforms the young are looking at then that is where the newspaper should be, too.

And perhaps the obvious that

It doesn’t take rocket science, therefore, to figure out that if those readers have gone elsewhere, then the newspaper should be doing exactly the same – making sure that its news content is available on whatever platform those readers desire.

But is it the platform that they should be worrying about or is it the content?

I would come down on the side of content.Rightly or wrongly hard news content is being shunned by the younger generation. If journalism students are interested in it then how the can the rest of the polulation be?
