We had one of those awful round robin letters in a Xmas card this week. The writer, who shall remain nameless informed us that this would be the last year that they would be sending Xmas cards. Citing the annual deluge of paper being sent through the post as damaging the environment, they would instead keep in touch through email.
At least it is not through facebook,I thought, as I read the rest of the letter, informing us that they had moved again this year and their youngest was taking up ballet lessons.
Xmas though is becoming more and more an online event. The shared television experiences of Morecombe and Wise have long vanished into the ether, and multi channel, multi platform entertainment has taken its place.
Now the Queen has converted to U Tube to deliver her message.Apparently the eighty something monarch was influenced by her grandchildren who are constantly on facebook.
The traditional Xmas card is being overtaken by the e card phenomena, but actually why bother with that.Lets just poke our Friends on facebook instead.
People no longer tramp around the shops, perhaps you can't blame them.Preferring instead to order online.(Although do not rely on the Royal Mail to deliver those presents on time as it has reportedly been deluged with packages and 2 million items will turn up late or not at all.)
If you don't like those presents, well you can sell them on ebay on boxing day and begin the cycle once again.
However for the purists who like the idea of Santa Claus trampling on your chimney or your sky dish, you can follow his progress on the 24th by logging onto a site called Norad Tracks Santa.
According to today's Sindy
Santa Claus leaves the North Pole to begin his epic delivery tomorrow, he will be tracked closely by radar and satellite, and by jet fighters following the sleigh. And this Christmas Eve there will be more men and women and boys and girls watching than ever, as the website showing his progress around the world in real time expects a billion hits.
A merry Xmas to you all
