Fundementals of journalism stay the same no matter what the medium

A rather interesting post from Mindy McAdams and something that I will take great notice as I am currently working on a online assignment.

Mindy notes from marking the final project from some of her masters students that a number of common errors take place.

1. Missing the opportunity of the intro
2. Weak blurb or summary text
3. Inconsistent navigation cues
4. Redundancy, especially on section fronts
5. Lack of context.
6. Reliance on conventional print formats

It is interesting that she brings up these points,essentially the fundementals of the story should be the same whatever the medium being used.

One of the briefs that we are asked when submitting our story ideas is what makes the story suitable for online.Surely the question should be the other way round,how can we enhance the story by putting it in an online format.Which means using tools that are compatable for the medium.

The story is THE story.If it is strong then it will work,the fundementals of journalism should not change.
