Jill Reisner writes over at Poynter Online
The era of the single-skill journalist is over. That's what I'm telling newsroom managers and those they lead. It's more than just reminding reporters who don't write well that there are fewer editors to polish their work. We're talking about multi-tasking that involves learning brand new skills.
But for those journalists that are frightened by this here are a view considerations from Jill
1.Your interest in learning new skills.
2.Your ability to overcome learning anxiety.
3.The training that's offered to you.
4.The training you seek and find, whether or not it is offered.
5.The connections you make across old organizational silos.
6.Your belief in yourself.
7.Your enduring passion for journalism in changing times.
Unfortunately like it or not, being a writer pure and simply with a nose for stories is no longer going to be good enough.
However an opinion.Let's not lose sight of the story, without a story the rest is immaterial
