As he says
Not all of these ideas are new or original–but what's scary is that 18 months later, very few of them have even been tried (though progress has been made on the first one–about a decade too late).
1.Web first Print second
2.Localisation
3.If it's widely available elsewhere, don't waste time re-creating it.

5.Get the readers involved
6.Lose the editorial page.
7.Expand the advertising base
8.Rethink the classifieds.

Nigel, I appreciate your thoughts on how to help the newspaper industry turn itself around. The problem is that the industry is a sinking ship that doesn't allow forward thinking or innovation.
I worked in the industry for the 15th largest daily newspaper at the time from 1973 through 1995. I had the opportunity to work across all departments on the business side in my time there. As I still talk to a few people around the country that are still attached or recently separated, I find the discussion and the egos to be about the same as I heard 13 years ago.
Good luck in your quest! Don't hit your head against that wall too hard.
