Sun aims to hold sales

The decision of the Sun to lower its price across the country seems a strange one given that its big rival the Mirror has already come out against any further price cuts.

The price is now at 30p across the whole country. It had been a discounted at that price in the South East until July when it was increased to 35p

Currently the paper is selling around 3m copies and the thinking is obviously to protect that figure as its sales have fallen now for 4 consecutive months

It is now 10p cheaper than the Mirror whose chief exec last week in the face of falling profits that they would cut an extra 20 million pounds in costs by 2009 and " have not and we will not reduce our cover prices."
