"News is not a book, it is all about now, about relevancy, about why and what is happening. "

Over at Paul Bradshaw's Online Journalism blog,Wilbert Baan speculates on what is going to happen to news publishers in this turbulent world that we live in.

He makes the following observations.Firstly

Information is and will be infinite accessible everywhere. All smart devices will be connected. This is different to old media where the medium was not infinite and thus choices and time frames were necessary.

Thus
mass media and press functions less as a generator and more as a directional and filter service.

He goes onto argue that the traditional structure of a newspaper impedes its move to online. Thus

a newspaper should shift up or down the chain. Become a networked company or focus.

Perhaps though the quote that is most apt is that

News is not a book, it is all about now, about relevancy, about why and what is happening. This consuming pattern is irreversible.

And publications that failed to recognise this will die
