The Beeb needs to promote Do it yourself Tv

Last nights Manchester Social media cafe included a late and surprise talk by Ian Forrester who is head of Backstage at the BBC.

Ian was explaining to the assorted audience the concept of R and D Tv which is an experiment by the corporation in what is probably best explained as do it yourself Tv.

The BBC has kept the concept fairly quiet, seemingly not that happy with its implications and has therefore kept it more or less to itself

The concept is that the recipients of these feeds will be able to edit and combine with their own word.To date though according to the audience last night only one mash up has taken place.

Poor Ian was rather like a rabbit caught in the headlights at times but did a very good job in defending the corporation's stance which many thought unreasonable.

The general consensus on the night was that the concept could be pushed out for journalism education purposes. At least then students could be beneficiaries of this exciting development.

Thanks Nigel, we did get a lot of coverage the first time around but it was the same day as the Pirate Bay trial ending so anyone interested in this area may have missed the news. As methioned before we did get coverage in the Guardian via the lovely Jemima Kiss, and it got on to arstechnica, boingboing and torrentfreak, plus a load of blogs and twitter.

Not bad for a research project, i would say
