Blogger fined over threatening article

Reporters without frontiers reports the case of a blogger feeling the long arm of the law

Gavin Brent, 24, was sentenced to pay a fine of 514 pounds sterling for posting an article on his blog viewed as “threatening” by a court in Flintshire, Wales.
The young man was arrested in February 2008 for committing 19 offences but when told the officer in the case, Steve Lloyd, could not attend the trial because his wife was having a baby, he posted the information on his blog, ending with. “PS. D.C. Lloyd, God help your new-born baby” which the police officer took as a threat.
He was sentenced under the Telecommunications Act relating to the sending of electronic messages.
