Quite unbelievable that the Daily Express has reverted to having a Diana story on its front pages.

Quoting the results of a new book,the paper reports that

chauffeur Henri Paul was not drunk when their car crashed in a Paris tunnel.
Blood samples used to verify the amount of alcohol he had consumed were taken from another corpse,

On Diana-hopefully for the last time

Perhaps yesterdays inquest ruling can finally put to bed newspaper speculation about the deaths of Dodi and Diana in Paris nearly 11 years ago.

For one paper in particular this has been an odyssey of many headlines and stories but the front page of the Express this morning does seem to vidicate the verdicts ofthe 11 members of the jury.....????

PRINCESS Diana and her lover Dodi Fayed were unlawfully killed by the criminally negligent driving of Henri Paul and pursuing paparazzi.
In a sensational inquest verdict yesterday, the jury found that both drunken Mr Paul and the photographers drove so fast and dangerously that the couple’s deaths were the equivalent of manslaughter.

Soemthing that perhaps we knew from the start???

Roy Greenslade makes the point that

The Princess Diana verdict of unlawful killing is unexpected - but it does vindicate those of us who have said consistently that the main reason for the odd sequence of events that night stemmed from her concern about the photographers waiting outside the Ritz hotel in Paris.

And I agree totally with his sentiments

In every way, their deaths were pointless. The world's press already had thousands of pictures, many of them showing the couple together. Their relationship was hardly a secret. No-one really needed to see more. Yet, for their part, Diana and Dodi need not have run away.

Now, more than a decade after the crash, the inquest has returned a verdict of unlawful killing due to the gross negligence both of Mr Paul and the paparazzi who were pursuing the Mercedes. Mr Fayed has nowhere else to go. It is tempting to suggest that he should now be required to pay the £10 million costs to the taxpayer of the inquest and of Lord Stevens's separate inquiry that also concluded the crash had been an accident.

Where were you ten years ago?

Ten years to the day which according to a You Guv poll in the Telegraph,89% of people knew where they were,the papers are full of specials on Princess Diana.

Leading them is the Express,unsuprisingly which claims,as it has does consistently that Diana was murdered on its front page.

THE driver of a mystery white Fiat Uno was responsible for Princess Diana’s death, claims the detective who led the inquiry into the crash that killed her.
Jean Claude Mules, who ran the initial French investigation, said his officers found compelling evidence that the car carrying Diana and Dodi Fayed collided with the Fiat seconds before it crashed.

and its leading article says

the Express will continue to probe the circumstances surrounding her death – however unpopular that makes us in the corridors of power.

The Sun drags up an exclusive interview on its front page with one of the pallbearers

Breaking his silence for the first time, he recalled: “I couldn’t help seeing her sons’ faces. That’s a memory that will never leave me. And Charles too, it was unbelievable. It was the greatest and saddest honour I have ever had.”

The Times reflects on

The most poignant sight at today’s service to mark the tenth anniversary of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, will be the empty seats.Most prominent among the missing will be the Duchess of Cornwall, who will spend the day with members of her family at Raymill House, Wiltshire, the marital home she held on to after her divorce and which she now uses regularly as a bolt hole from the strains of royal life.

It is a tribute to her iconic status that no-one has been able to touch the nation's hearts in the same way.
The Royal Family exists on public goodwill and came close to losing that faith with its ham-fisted reaction to her sudden death in a Paris underpass.

And the praises continue as many mark the anniversary with special features

Ten days ago, I would have jeered at anyone who suggested that such mawkishly inaccurate sentiments would have been expressed when Diana died.

That Diana Documentary-the final word

After finally getting around to watching the Channel 4 Diana Documentary,I also came to the conclusion as to what all the fuss was about.

Generally the programme simply wanted to put the views of the photographers who were vilified in the days and weeks after the accident for being responsible for the deaths.

I hope that the documentary has finally put that to rest.

The accident was caused by a probable drunken driver ,who was on a ego trip thinking that he could outrun the paparazzi .He entered a tunnel travelling far too fast and crashed at 65mph.The car's occupants were not wearing their seat belts and this made the accident even more serious.
