The news that ITV has signed a new deal with ITN to provide news services for the next six years prompts Adrian Monck to look at the declining price of British news.
The deal has cost the Independent broadcaster £250m and will be investing£15m in the newsroom as part of the deal.
According to Guardian media though the deal will result in job cuts
"technology upgrade would streamline production at its ITV news division, requiring fewer operational jobs.
ITN is to introduce a new desktop editing system and will train all journalists in using it.
Mr Wood would not say how many of ITN's 800-strong workforce would be at risk, but added that the company would be launching a voluntary redundancy programme.
According to Adrian the deal means that Itv is effectively paying just half of the cost of 10 years ago.As he says:
"Still £100k a day to bring you the global, national and regional news is the steal of the century. If anyone at White City wants to know how they do it, perhaps ITN Consulting might help out?"
