Martin Stabe on the regional news room

An interesting article from Martin Stabe via the Press Gazette site looking at the development of online news in the regional press.

I was partcually interested though in the comments that he reports of Tim Bowdler at Johnson Press who once again talks of the growth in micro news:

"I think we will see more granularity in our websites," We now have well over 300, and some of those have sub-websites with community pages."

Something that Associated Northcliffe Digital is also looking at as Martin reports

"In what it calls a "layering" strategy, Associated Northcliffe Digital is expanding its 36-site ThisIs network to 50 sites by the end of the summer. The new online titles will draw content from multiple daily and weekly papers to split large coverage areas into smaller pieces, to provide users with more localised content"

As those who have read this blog before know, the convergence in the newsrooms around the country will,I feel, result in more of a localised content to regional news sites and this will be one of the many positive aspects of convergence
