Americans look to UK for online news

The New York Times writes of the increased interest from the American public in British news websites and our response to it

with Americans seemingly developing a taste for news
with a Fleet Street twist,
British papers are stepping up their efforts to
court American readers and
advertisers, expanding their coverage of American
politics and culture. "

The Guardian for example now has over 2.5m hits from US addresses in a month and is planning a GuardianUSA.com page, and BBC news gets more than 9m unique users every month.

The cynical view of this may be that the American audience is looking for a differing perspective on events not necessarily given by its own media. For example coverage of Middle Eastern affairs but I would like to think that Uk journalists are just better writers.
