No doubting what all the papers are reporting this morning.Conrad Black, former owner of the Telegraph found guilty of using mechanisms to draw money from his empire whilst avoiding paying dividends to his shareholders.
I watched Andrew Neill,"I told you so" interview on Newsnight last night. The former Times man relating his last meeting when he warned Lord Black of Crossharbour that the climate in the business world had changed.A warning that was apparently rebuffed in arrogance according to Neill.
Perhaps the compelling evidence was the Cctv coverage of the media mogul clearing documents out of hos office before the police raided it.A lesson to always switch off the cameras ( especially if they are your own)
Jeff Randle ,writing in the Telegraph this morning ,says
"If Conrad Black, the former chairman of The Daily Telegraph, ever believed it would come to this, he never revealed it. Not for a minute. The master of bombast kept up a show of defiance right to the bitter end.
Even when the prosecution team produced evidence that seemed to be incontrovertibly damaging to him, the former newspaper baron insisted that he would prevail. Black's friends, while admiring his bravado, became increasingly convinced that, as the trial dragged on, he was maintaining self confidence only by existing in a state of complete denial."
