Examples of hyper local news

Editors Weblog carries a good example of the hyper local news phenonoma which seems to be the buzz word at the moment.

Citing the example of the Florida based Naples News it tells that the paper

realized that the Web was the new platform and re-worked their newsroom to focus on Web-first publishing. The Internet has allowed the paper to get even more local than it was when Lewis first joined the paper. It taps into the resources of its community, initiating debates in online forums and printing news and photos from its readers. Last week, the paper launched its latest project, an interactive weather webcast
.

On its website it explains

One of the main objectives of naplesnews.com is to make sure that everyone who lives here feels like these are your newspapers and Web site, not ours.
We want to put the "community" back into community newspaper, and that's where you come in. Below are sections of this site created entirely by members of the community, not employees of naplesnews.com or the Naples Daily News. These photos, stories, videos, blogs and the rest of this content is from you for you.

This is one of the submissions from the website

Members of DPI-SIG, the Naples Digital Photography Club, took over 300 photos during an outing at Shy Wolf Sanctuary in August, to be used in SWS’s 2008 Calendar that will go on sale at the Sanctuary’s annual fund raiser “Howl-O-Days” on November 10, 2007.
As one of their monthly photo outings, the members of DPI-SIG went to Shy Wolf Sanctuary to photograph the displaced animals that have found refuge there. Among the animals photographed were a Jaguar-Leopard cross, several Cougars, and numerous Wolves and Wolf-Dogs. All of the photos were presented to SWS to select several to be used in their promotional 2008 Calendar.
