The sacrificial goat?

The Queengate affair got its most prominent casualty yesterday afternoon as BBC1 controller Peter Fincham resigned following a report over the controversy of the Queen appearing to storm out of a photo session.

A report commissioned by former BBC executive Will Wyatt concluded that the incident reflected "misjudgments, poor practice and ineffective systems" at the corporation.

It'snot just Fincham who has had to watch his back. His boss Jana Bennett,BBC vision Director also came in for critisism in the report.

A report in Guardian media this morning suggests

The former BBC executive's report says that although Ms Bennett "accepts that the matter was 'serious' and that the Palace was 'very upset'", she did not look into the issue enough and should have alerted the director general, Mark Thompson, earlier.

So where will it all end?

According to the Telegraph

it was Mr Fincham's "naive" failure to issue an apology immediately after it became known the trailer was a misrepresentation of events that forced his resignation yesterday. That apology was delayed until the following day.

Perhaps he is therefore the sacrificial goat in all this and the corporation can draw a line under this and other episodes.Or will it?
