We will all be going out on placements in just over 2 weeks time, more on mine at a later date.
However for many students, the transformation from university life to that of the real world of work can be a shock.
Last week at the PTC seminars,Phil Hilton ex of NUTS magazine and now the editor of shortlist gave his top nine points that every student wished they would have known based on tips from former students who had joined his organisation.
1.Learn the art of multi tasking.Students are used to doing one thing at a time. Now it becomes important to learn the art of time management and learn to say no to important people.
2.Always make sure that you get a good brief and learn to coax it out of your tasker.
3.Don't just focus on the serious, remember it is fun out there.
4.News is something that a PR has given you-always remember that it is all about contacts and relationships.
5.Journalism will take over your life
6.Never try to dominate in meetings.Always try to come up with one good idea and take up no more than 20% of the meeting time.
7.Deadlines are never flexible.
8.Panic quietly and always look good under pressure.
9.The hierarchy is everything.
