How local news sites should fill the gap

For those who are looking at the blogging medium to go hyperlocal,it is worth looking at
Steve Yelvington's post

Steve writes of the threeprimary roles that a local blog/website should play.

That of Town crier/that of town square and that of town expert.

Journalists he says

tend to gravitate to only one of these roles: the town crier, the quaint colonial-era village character who walks around ringing a bell telling you what's happening. It comes naturally.
whereas you need to be effective in all three.

News he adds is not enough

Doing the same thing better and faster is not enough. It's time to look left and right at what's not being done.
