£630K for what exactly

So we have research money to the tune of £630K being pumped into Media City here in Manchester.

The money from the North West Regional Development authority,(NWDA) will in the words of their press release

go into a The Framework for Innovation and Research in MediaCityUK (FIRM) project, led by the University of Salford and aims to connect the BBC and the digital and creative industries sector to international academic and industry specialists and funding mechanisms.

Yes.....got that....what does it mean?

Steven Broomhead, Chief Executive of the NWDA

This additional investment in FIRM, based within the NWDA-funded Media Enterprise Centre, has already helped to unlock millions of pounds of national research funding and the project will go on to generate over £20m of private investment in research over the next 8 years. FIRM will help bring the BBC and other MediaCityUK tenants together with Higher Education and by utilising the recently announced NorthernNet technology we can spread the benefits of MediaCityUK and collaboration across the North. ”

In the meantime....let me just remind you, local journalism is struggling, local creative projects are struggling for capital, need I go on.......

Watch this space for further developments?
