Barrymore is once again outed by the tabloids.

Both the Sun and the Mail have tracked down the former Strike It Lucky stat who fell from Prime Television after the death of Stuart Lubbock who was found in the swimming pool at the star's home in Roydon, Essex.

The Sun calls him Michael Barrowmore as it finds him

is reduced to mucking out a pal's garage.
Barrymore, once host of ITV's prime-time show Strike It Lucky, now spends his weekends polishing cars, clearing junk and sweeping the forecourt.

The Mail reports that

The 57-year-old toils throughout the day as he piles barrowloads of rubbish into a skip with a shovel, washes cars and throws away cardboard boxes at Shiltons Bodyworks in Epping, Essex.
Barrymore, who has battled drink and drugs, has spent the past nine months working hard to stay clean and sober.

Tabloid watch-the summer silly season

Last year it was sharks, this year we have Jellyfish and bats.

This morning's front page of the Mirror carried the story that

Swarms of the tropical Portuguese Man o' War have been swept here from the Caribbean by unseasonal high winds. A lad of seven had a lucky escape after he was stung by one in Charmouth, Dorset.
Worried marine experts yesterday warned holidaymakers to be on the lookout for killer tropical jellyfish lurking on Britain's beaches.
At least 19 of the poisonous 10-inch sausage-shaped creatures have been found washed up on our shores in the past week.
A seven-year-old boy had a lucky escape when he was stung on the leg while paddling in Charmouth, Dorset.

Meanwhile on another continent the Star tells us that

ATTACKS by deadly vampire bats have left at least 38 people dead.
The blood-thirsty predators have devastated whole villages after sinking their fangs into women and children.Settlements in Venezuela, South America, have come under attack from the winged menaces, with natives fearing for their lives. It is thought the bats were carrying rabies, which then infected members of the remote Warao tribe.

A book by a non journalist aims to attack tabloid journalism

A book about journalism but not by a journalist is deeply critical of the profession claiming that tabloid journalism is causing suffering in the name of sensationalism.

Peter Burden, interviewed in this morning's Independent,

is so fired up by what he sees as the News of the World's slide into the gutter that he has written a book about it, setting out in remarkable detail how the paper operates and how indifferent he feels it is to the suffering of those it exposes.

He says of the tabloid industry

"I'd always been a news watcher and I was getting more and more appalled at standards which started dropping in the mid '90s. Once it was understood that celebrity trivia was an international commodity – you can sell stories all over the world, which Murdoch recognised and that's why he appointed someone like Piers Morgan as editor – all the emphasis moved to celeb stories, to the cost of the one or two genuine stories they used to do."

What happens when you try tabloid techniques in Canada

The First Post reports the case of a tabloid journalist who travels to Canada to get the gossip on Autuum Kelly

Who you may ask? Well she is marrying the 11th in line to our throne,Peter Philips, son of Anne and Mark

Kristian Gravenor reports that she was

hired by a ruthless British tabloid to sniff out and find the vital facts about this newest addition to the UK's genetically appointed rulers.

But the rules of Montreal are somewhat different

What do London tabloid journalists do? Go through garbage? There's a law against that in these parts. Stakeouts? Instead, I wrote up a flyer asking people to call if they had information. I delivered it door to door in her neighbourhood.
The next day I was denounced on the city's biggest English-language radio station. The two old ladies who hosted the programme had received one of my notes. They thought my request to be an outrageous intrusion.

And at the end of the day what did she find?

The tale of Autumn Kelly seemed about as typical as could be. She was born and raised in a sleepy suburban area, had a typical upbringing and met a well-off guy and moved to London. No big deal.

A rant too far

It probably wasn't the most sensible thing to do.

Mrs McCartney Mills appearing on national breakfast television and ranting about her treatment in the tabloids.Neither, probably was it sensible for her to compare herself to Kate McCann and the Tabloids have quckly had their revenge this morning.

Most of them appear to think that she is insane, the Telegraph reporting that

Looking directly at the camera as she spoke on GMTV, Lady McCartney said: "I have a box of evidence that's going to a certain person should anything happen to me, so if you top me off, it's still going to that person, and the truth will come out. There is so much fear from a certain party of the truth coming out that lots of things have been put out and done, so the police came round and said 'you have had serious death threats from an underground movement'.

Has she got a point. There is no doubt that certain elements of the press have gone for the jugular, the Sun in particular has consistently referred to her as Mucca.

I heard Roy Greenslade's interview on PM yesterday when his view was that of "those who live by the sword-die by the sword".He had on numerous occassions courted the press and had never taken any action against papers in the past through the press complaints council.

The news that her PR has stepped down after her appearance on GMTV simply backs up the view that she has gone a step too far.

I do have some sympathy with her predicament.Unfortunately her outburst will only make those relations that she so wants even more difficult to nuture
