All the attention this morning is on the news that Catherine Tate was robbed of a comedy award by Ant and Dec.

Yet this report only deflects attention away from Ofcom's record finefor ITV.

Let's just get the facts in context. On 86 occasions phone in competitions deprived viewers of a total of £7.8m

As the Guardian says this morning

The watchdog paints a picture of "omnipotent" senior producers wielding "unfettered power" and making sure junior staff who raised the issue were "firmly sat upon". They were preoccupied with bringing in large audiences while failing to understand they had "ceded editorial control" of elements of the show to viewers

In other words sheer greed and commercial drive.

The remarkable thing in all this is that nobody appears to be carrying the can.Heads roll at the BBC for lesser evils.

Some of the issues were simply shades of incomptenancy.ITV2 + 1 hour urging viewers to phone even though it was a delayed broadcast.
